Production Meeting Reflection 3

The job role that I have been given and will have to work with for the rest of the process is being the director of the live magazine music show. To be the director I have to in control of many things which are making sure that everyone is on point in regards to their tasks meaning I had to make sure that everyone does their tasks and do not hold anyone back. I also have the task of calling out commands in the gallery/control room which the other people on set will have to obide by. This is because I will have the authority of doing so. During this week of classwork I have been doing a new task which is the health and safety risk assessment of the gallery/control room and this had to be completed by the end of the week. I have been preparing for how I will do the tasks in the control room and I think I will do the tasks quite well because I believe that I am a responsible person and also quite decisive. I do not need to change anything in the work that has been produced and would also not need to develop anything. The work I will have to do next week will be a master script for the shots that will be taken in the live show.

Running Order

Reflection on Own Idea

This is my idea reflection.

For my show I have thought of a few ideas that I can contain, one of the ideas that I have thought about containing is a competition segment which enables the fans and audience at home to participate with the show. This is because I will have an artist appearing on the show for an interview. There will also be two presenters and I have chosen two because it will result in more of a variety as there will be a male and a female presenter. The presenters will take part in interviewing the artist and finding out more information about the artist, as they will do this they will also find out information about the artists new single which will soon be released and find out when the single will be released. Another segment which I would like to include is a quick-fire question round. This is where the presenters will use certain questions to ask the artist, as they are going to be quick-fire questions they will most likely require a yes or no answer. I believe this will be a good aspect to add as it will be entertaining for the viewers at home to see and it will also be enjoyable for the artist that is going to be appearing on the show. Another idea that I have thought about including is a pre-recorded segment on the artist, and this will be about a 10 minute video about the artist going around in different areas and showing where they got the inspiration from on their music. This is also how my show is planning to be different than many other magazine shows as it is excessively based on inspiration for music and where it came from. For the competition aspect I have thought about showing a question at the beginning of the show for the audience to answer and they have the whole of the show to think of an answer as it will be revealed at the end of the show, the show will pick a random person who got the answer correct and give them a prize, below I have placed an image of the basic aspect of how the question will look.
The first production meeting consisted of everyone in the class meeting together in a seated order in the class room which was arranged in a circular position. By having it like this it was a good arrangement so that everyone could find out each others ideas.
The feedback that I received after I gave my idea out was quite positive as many people liked the idea that I produced, they also liked my pre recorded features that I mentioned will be in. They liked how the fans can have input on the artists music and thoughts and feelings. Most people said that the name was quite good and relevant to music. They said I could improved by changing one of my pre recorded features which was a segment of an artist giving their feelings on how they felt one of their live shows went.

Production Meeting Reflection 2

During this week of work I was assigned a task which was to make a fully produced running order which the show will use to run by in the process. In the production meeting I firstly pointed out the whole idea of the show to the whole class for example I let them know what the shows name will be and I told them which games and re-recorded features will be included plus much more. I then gave the class the whole running order and I explained what will occur in which ever order. The group had a good response to the progress as the running order was completed on time and they also liked the ideas that I gave that I gave which were going to appear in the show. The successful aspects of this week were that the running order was completed on time, also, I managed to give some people help as they asked me for my views on their own tasks and wanted to know what I thought of them and what I could say to improve the aspects, for example Serife asked me about the logo and what should be done with it and I said that the background of the logo was fine but the only think that needed to be changed was the font of the writing as we thought that it only appealed to one target audience and one genre as it was written in graffiti so this was changed to a more suitable font which appealed to many more genres. The aspect that needs to be changed is the order of a few things that are included in the running order and this is because in some concepts the segments are too close together such as the 3 interviews were relatively close to each other and had to be spread out. I improved this with a partner in class. Next week  I will move on to my next task of a risk assessment. I worked well with the peers as I had a close partner throughout the week that was there with me to get the work done.

Production Meeting Reflection 1

Reflection:

As we entered class on friday we had to sit in a circle around the class and this was so that everyone in the class could present their idea for their music magazine show to the whole class. The meeting was run by everyone presenting their idea one by one to the whole class, it didn't require the person to stand up and show the whole presentation, we simply just sat and expressed our idea to the people surrounding. As one person would be presenting the other people would be taking notes on what the name of the persons show was, what was good about the show, what could be improved and what was the most unique aspect about it which makes it different to other shows. I barely got a response.
The idea which I voted for was Rebeccaa idea and this was because I thought her ideas were quite unique as she had a different sort of layout as to how the seating and set would be arranged. The idea was good however I think it would only relate to one target audience as it seems to be a hip hip show and also the name 'Drop Da Bass' is also in slang which is mostly used in rap and hip hop music. I also think that a live rap battle would be quite tough to fulfil so if she wants it to happen it should be pre-recorded. I think many other ideas can go into it as Aarun's shows name was good as it was 'Pick up the Vibe' and it relates to most audiences. I also think Siddanths and Hollies games can be included as they are unique and haven't really been used before.

Planning a Multi - Camera Production

Programme Format:

Title:

Below is the title to my show:

I chose this name because I thought it was relevant to the music genre. This is because the word 'Ensemble' is associated with music and instruments. I also believe that the name has an interesting ring to it as it sounds catchy and will stay in people's minds for a long period of time.

Content ideas:

For my show I have thought of a few ideas that I can contain, one of the ideas that I have thought about containing is a competition segment which enables the fans and audience at home to participate with the show. This is because I will have an artist appearing on the show for an interview. There will also be two presenters and I have chosen two because it will result in more of a variety as there will be a male and a female presenter. The presenters will take part in interviewing the artist and finding out more information about the artist, as they will do this they will also find out information about the artists new single which will soon be released and find out when the single will be released. Another segment which I would like to include is a quickfire question round. This is where the presenters will use certain questions to ask the artist, as they are going to be quickfire questions they will most likely require a yes or no answer. I believe this will be a good aspect to add as it will be entertaining for the veiwers at home to see and it will also be enjoyable for the artist that is going to be appearing on the show. Another idea that I have thought about including is a pre recorded segment on the artist, and this will be about a 10 minute video about the artist going around in different areas and showing where they got the inspiration from on their music. This is also how my show is planning to be different than many other magazine shows as it is exessively based on inspiration for music and where it came from.

Running order:

The show will start off with a little introduction video which will contain images and short clips of music as it will create a nice and visual intro. Then the show will have the two presenters talking about what the show will contain in the whole half an hour and they will talk about music. After they have the little talking part they will introduce the guest onto the show and the guest will be a new artist into the music scene. After they introduce the artist they will have an interview and this interview should roughly take about 10 minutes. After they have the interview they will ask the question for the audience to text in and give the answer as they will have untill the end of the 20 minutes of the show to give an answer. After they give the question there will be a video that will be shown and that video is a pre recorded segment of the artist going around with a presenter to places where they like going usually and just going through what kind of stuff they go through in daily life such as studio sessions. After the video is finished there wil be a quickfire question round for the artist and the presenters, the presenters will give the artist about 15 quick questions which require short but sufficient answers. After the quickfire round is finished they presenters will reveal the answer to the question which they gave 20 minutes ago and they will pick a random person who got the question right and will give a prize out.

Studio Design and Background Sketch:

Visual style:

For my visual style of the show I would like it to be quite straight forward with many long shots and mid shots and close ups used. This will happen as the middle camera which will be camera one will show the long shots and mid shots of the 3 people that will be appearing on camera. The other two cameras which are camera 2 and 3 will be showing the individual people as camera two will be showing close ups of the presenters and the camera 3 will be showing the close ups of the artist, most of the time there will be close ups of the artist as they will be looking to show the artists expressions and emotions being shown as they are the most important aspect of the show. Below is an example of how I would like the visual style of my show to be, pretty much exactly like it as it meets my correct requirements.

Presentation Style:

For my presentation style I would like my show to be quite informal, when it is informal it is not as serious as a formal way would be as the presenters and artists aren't talking straight face to face and this is because they will also be looking at the camera a lot as they would want to send emotions to the viewers at home too.

Job Roles of a Multi Camera Production

Job Roles of a Multi Camera Production

In multi camera media productions there are many job roles which are required to be taken. This is because a multi camera production is a big task and requires a large set with many people taking a job role each to make the procedure smooth. There are also certain duties and skills which are required from the crew as the duties are the aspects that the crew workers need to ensure that they fulfil and the skills are the aspects the crew workers have in their possession which makes them do the job in the correct way.

Hierarchy:

A hierarchy is the arrangement of aspects from an order from top to bottom. It can got from most important to the most less important. An example would be at a school as the head teacher would be at the top of the hierarchy and the students would be at the bottom. This is because the head teacher plays the biggest role in the school as they are the main aspect of the school.

In live multi camera production there are 10 main roles for the production crew:
  • Camera Operator
  • Sound Mixer
  • Vision Mixer
  • Director
  • Set Designer
  • Lighting Desk
  • Floor Manager
  • Graphics Generation
  • VT Operator
  • Presenter

Below is the hierarchy order in my own opinion:

                                                                          Director:

The director is basically the most important person in the multi camera crew and this is because the director holds and takes responsibility on everything that occurs in a multi camera production so everything runs through the director. The director is mainly responsible for ordering the actors to do what he or she wants to make the film or show. The director also assists in hiring the cast for a multi camera production as they would like people to work with that would meet their own preferences.

Duties:
  • The director must make a preparation before they start a production and this is because it is vital to have a game plan to be prepared for as it will help and the director shouldn't then come into contact with any difficulties.
  • The director needs to decide on where the shooting will be done and they also need to include a layout in the plan of the step by step of the shots that they will be shooting.
  • The director also offers the crew help on the aspect of where to and how to get costumes, props and scenery.

Skills:
  • Must have a good eye for spotting people to be in their production as it is necessary to know which person or aspect will be the best choice for the production that the director is creating
  • Must be prepared to be a great leader and this is because they are responsible for most of the aspects in the production so it all runs through the director.
  • The director must be a very creative person as they will be making the production in the way it is.

A director needs some qualifications before being able to become a director, normal television directors normally possess a bachelors degree in 'journalism, broadcasting, English or communications'. Television directors also usually have 2-4 years of experience in television production before they become a director.

Above I have placed a video of a television director doing his job of directing. As you can see from the start of the video, the director is straight away placing orders on the cast and crew and this is as he is telling them what to do, what time everything will happen, also does a countdown from each shot to start and finish. As you can see the director is very vary and aware of what should be happening. This is shown at 1:05 because as soon as he finishes his countdown, he speaks out saying that everyone should have content on their screens at the present moment.

Camera Operator:

The camera operator in a multi camera production plays a big role as they are recording the show. Another name for the main camera operator is the 'cinematographer'. The camera operators work with the cameras that are used to film the productions, they do not just film randomly, they have to follow a shooting script which has the whole order of the shots that are required. The camera operator would usually work under the director meaning the camera operator would have to follow whatever the director commands.

Duties:
  • The camera operator must always be willing to follow whatever the director orders them to do as it should be a skill and a duty to them.
  • Need to be aware of the safety and security around the shooting set as many of the camera equipment can get into people's way.
  • Need to be aware of any technical problems that may occur and they need to find solutions, for example in outdoor conditions they cameras could get dis functioned due to rain.
  • Need to sometimes offer ideas and thoughts to expand the production
Skills:

  • Need to have a creative mind to know about which kind of shots and angles they should use
  • Need to have a steady body as when they are shooting they can't keep making movements in their body
  • Should be good at practising shots before starting to fill

Above is a screen shot of the qualifications and requirements that are needed to become a television camera operator. As you can see it is very useful to have a large amount of experience in media productions.

Above I have placed a video which is a news report on a camera operator from 'CNN' doing his job and showing how he does it. In most of the video the camera operator explains the functions about the camera and also how it should be set up.

Floor Manager

The floor manager in a television multi camera production is the person who is responsible for giving information that is from the director to the crew that are in the control room. The floor manager also needs to ensure that all of the equipment that is placed in the set it set up correctly and that it doesn't contain any harm to the other crew members that are around. This should be done before the shooting process starts and the floor manager should also do relevant check ups throughout the filming to ensure that there is no danger. The floor manager is also the manager of the cues meaning they communicate through from the crew members on when to start and stop.

Duties:
  • Must ensure that all of the equipment is working before and after
  • Need to get the audience to their correct positions
  • Must give ques to guests, actors and presenters
  • Can also help in planning the show
Skills:
  • Need to have maturity to do their job properly
  • Must know in their mind about all of the equipment and layout.
  • Must have the ability to work under a lot of pressure

Above is an  image of the specifications and requirements that are needed to become a floor manager. There are 3 main aspects that are needed and required for the person to have experience in. Media studies are very important to have experience in, also drama/theatre studies and experience in photography will also be useful. As you can see in the second paragraph it notifies that a degree is not always needed as you can still apply to become a floor manager with experience in the three subjects.

Set designers are responsible for the full visual concept of the set which will be shown in the television. They also have to work very closely with the director as they will also be receiving extra tasks on what to improve on and where to sort the sets out. Also known as the Production Designer, the designer also design the set by basing it from the script of the production, as they read and acknowledge the script they would get the basic idea of what kind of layout and set the production will need.

Duties:
  • Must look at the script to decide on what the set should appear like
  • They must also plan the budget due to the set and what they'll buy
  • They need to hire and manage an art department team
